“Style is your own interpretation of art on your body. It is an outward expression of your inner experience,” says local burlesque performer, Patricia “Cherry” Erick. According to Erick, much of burlesque performance is inspired by Old Hollywood glamour and pin-up. She explains, “Burlesque is a big, artistic palette. I gain inspiration from the 1920s through the '50s. Marilyn Monroe is such a strong inspiration. Whether she was wearing a pair of jeans or a gown, she was sexy.” As a performance artist, Erick encourages women to ignore sizes. “If it makes you feel sexy, wear it!”
