Last Minute Holiday Outfit Inspiration

Holiday 2015 - Outfit Inspiration

Wow. Another holiday season is upon us and we’re about to bid adieu to 2015 and welcome in a bright, new shiny year. Whatever you do, do it in style! And make sure you have fun with it. Mostly as an excuse to get together with one of my favorite creatives in Denver, I partnered with Frances Prema Harjeet, owner of Prema, to share our ideas for dressing for the season. I also recently watched the documentary about fashion icon, Iris Apfel, which reaffirmed my own commitment to celebrate individuality and self expression through style. One of my favorite quote of Iris’s is this:

"I like individuality. So lost these days. So much sameness. Everything is homogenized. I hate it. Whatever."

You tell ‘em, Iris. This is my general sentiment about fashion lately. Maybe less severe. But I started thinking about unique ensembles for upcoming holiday events. Visions of playful textures and patterns began to dance in my head... pairings of fur, velvet, corduroy, and lace, oh my! So I thought I’d ask ultra creative stylist Frances to collaborate with me. She brought along her beautiful, handmade wreaths as well! Why not, right?

Frances shared the following thoughts on dressing for the holiday season:

The holidays provide the perfect excuse to put on your fancy pants, rock a bold lip and celebrate the season with your gal pals! This time of year a little extra sparkle is always a good idea, but being seasonally appropriate doesn't mean being stuck with a red, white and green palette. You can never go wrong with black, especially when you pair a jumpsuit with blingy costume jewelry and a towering heel. Why not play with texture and dance into the party with a luxe velvet full skirt? Rose gold is a lovely alternative to the classically bright golden hue and is especially flattering for those of us with peachy complexions. Buttoning up in a mulberry corduroy skirt in a vintage style with a warm gold floral pattern top is a unique and wintry look completed with a faux fur scarf for an extra cozy touch. Great jewelry tops off any outfit and this time of year, we vote for more is more! Why not choose to sparkle and shimmer a little brighter, isn't that why the nights are so long in December? Shine on you crazy diamonds!
