Introducing DSM Contributor: Jennifer Vailionis

What brought you to Denver? My wife was hired as the training director for all of the new restaurant openings of Snooze, which is her dream job. Denver is a dream city destination, so the choice to move was a total no-brainer!

What interests you about being a DSM contributor? Not only is DSM ground zero for any and all of the latest information about Denver's burgeoning fashion scene, it also serves as a conduit. It’s connecting the creative community to the resources they need to take their dreams to the next level. It's so inspiring to be part of such a bold and caring group of women.

Where do you find inspiration for creativity? Oh, wow! I have a habit of tearing images and phrases out of magazines to hoard. Many of them end up in a collage on my wall, so that I’m inspired first thing in the morning. I'm also so inspired by my colleagues. DSM is such a supportive community. I feel like I've already met some incredibly talented and passionate people who will become lifelong friends.

Where are some of your favorite places to shop in Denver? Well, I just moved to the city, so I'm still trying to figure out where my spots will be. But, I'm really fascinated by the local slow fashion movement and can't wait to add some pieces into heavy rotation.

What trend are you following? Although slow fashion is more of a movement than a trend, I'm so excited to see how it evolves here. Also, 2017 is turning into the year of the pearls. It’s incorporated in ways that say anything but dated, so I'm looking forward to seeing how that develops. I love how a great piece of jewelry can transform any outfit and make it feel fresh and exciting.

Describe your style in three words. Romantic. Quirky. Colorful.

Who is your style icon and why? I'm not sure I can name just one! Carine Roitfeld has such a sultry look that I admire. Jenna Lyons is a perfect example of how a marriage between casual pieces and impeccably tailored menswear-inspired pieces can be everything right in the world. Linda Rodin truly embodies the word ‘style’. Everything she wears looks uniquely her.

What is your go-to outfit? Heels! The highest heels I can successfully walk in. I can't resist a pointed toe d'orsay pump, especially if it's in some bright color or pattern. These heels are completed with a pair of high-waisted jeans, t-shirt, and a statement clutch.

What fashion/beauty item do you splurge on? I think skin and haircare products are important, so they are worth the splurge. My first bottle of Sisley-Paris Black Rose Cream Mask changed my life.

What is your favorite color/s to wear? Although I've been wearing a lot of black lately, I adore hot pink.

What are your hobbies/interests besides blogging? I love to paint and draw. I think I'll be an artist in my next life. I'm also a professional baker. I owned a hand pie shop in Phoenix called Bubby Goober's Baked Goods. It was a dream come true. I hope to start up here when the time is right.
