AOB MedSpa

aobmedspa_0001 All Over Beautiful or AOB Med Spa is renowned medical spa that started right here in our own backyard! With over nine-locations throughout Colorado and Texas the trained aestheticians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants at AOB Med Spa provide high-results oriented services that are usually only offered through dermatologist or plastic surgeon.

I was most interested in this face needling situation. More on that below.

Upon arriving for my first service, I filled out the usual forms about myself and skin history.

The inviting registration desk is home to the comfiest bar stools, because who wants to fill out paperwork standing up?

After filling out my paperwork I was escorted to my service room where I met Seabron Pelc, my Spa Aesthetician. Not only did she explain in detail how the procedure would work, she provided insights into how this would help my skin, ways that I could improve my own routine, and answered every weird question I had.

So what is Face Needling?

First off, it's not really call face needling. I just happen to like that term. Mirconeedling or Collagen Induction Therapy  is a minimally invasive procedure that rejuvenates the skin through regenerative healing.? What does that even mean?

"Well, it's like aerating your lawn, but on your face", Seabron explained. Brilliant! The device holds a pen with 9-micro needles that roll over your skin and prick the skin to stimulate the skin's natural healing process. But first, your face has to get numb.

Seabron applied a topical cream that took 30-minutes to numb my entire face. Just enough time to answer a few e-mails and create a new business. So what does it feel like when your entire face is numb? Kind of awesome.

You know when you go to the dentist and he/she numbs your mouth? You can feel the pressure that someone is doing something, but you can't actually feel penetration. Same thing. I could feel that Seabron was lightly touching my face, but I couldn't feel needles actually pricking my skin. And as long as Seabron didn't mention the fact that my skin had some slight bleeding, I was fine.

The Microneedling penetrates the skin without being an invasive treatment with injections. Unlike Botox injections, the needles 'wake up' the already existing collagen in your skin to start producing more and fill in the lines and wrinkles.

During the procedure, I was completely relaxed and found myself falling asleep to the sounds of the white noise the machine produced. The procedure time is roughly about 30 minutes and you can expect to be in-and-out in about an hour and 20 minutes.

Here's what to expect afterwards:

Your skin has just been put through trauma so expect redness. I was told ahead of time that'd it'd feel like a sunburn, and that's exactly what it felt like. My skin was kind of itchy, but in no way sore.

the number will last a few hours afterwards, so just enjoy the experience. How often is your face numb?

Don't plan any gala's or photoshoots after this procedure. Your skin needs to rejuvenate and this is the time to do it. For 24 hours following the procedure, you're asked to not wear any make-up, not apply any creams, and even keep yourself from touching your skin to avoid any infection. I took full advantage and went make-up free for 3 days. After about 24-48 hours you can continue your normal skincare routine as usual.

A New Face:

I have some bad news. As much as you'd like to believe the 90's, you can not exchange your face with Nicholas Cage or John Travolta. I know, the truth is sometimes hard.

What you can expect is seriously rejuvenated skin. Some of my concerns were in regards to the small lines that my makeup was seeping into, giving me lines and wrinkles that I am not ready to accept. This procedure is able to get close to the eye lines and under your nose which isn't a possibility with other machines. You won't notice a difference that night, but you'll begin to notice a difference as time goes on. A week later, my skin was clear and looked firmer. I thought this was me telling myself nice things, but on a recent photoshoot, my makeup artist commented on the overall appearance of my skin.

Since the lower layer of dermis has been 'woken up', it's now time to make new skin cells and slowly give me a new face...or at least a newer face. #XoHo
